"Icelandic Poppy 1"

I have a friend of mine, named James, that is a really good amateur photographer. He is mostly a travel photographer, but lately he has been delving into floral photography. He is a pretty stern critic of his own work, but I think he is quite excellent. Anyway, he purchases flowers, photographs them, and then brings them to me. Mainly, he does this to see how I would approach the floral subjects.
He brought me some Icelandic Poppies which I got 4 or 5 interesting shots of. This image was captured furthest away from the flower of the whole series. This is a new image that is not on the website, yet.
Please email me if interested.

"Malva Zebrinas"

One day I was strolling through Antique Rose Emporium when I happened upon this gem. The flowers are just slightly larger than a quarter with wonderful markings. I understand there is some medicinal value in this plant, but I just thought it was a unique looking flower that deserved to be photographed.

"Rip's Gerber"

When my Father-In-Law passed away our family received a few floral arrangements that were quite beautiful. One of the Gerbera Daisies, in one arrangement, really caught my eye. I ended up photographing the flower from the backside because of the wonderful color tone. My Father-In-Law's nickname was "Rip", so I decided to name this image after him. He was the Patriarch of our clan...respected and loved by all. He supported me in all my endeavors, even marrying his daughter 24 years ago. Sadly, the man is gone and so is that Gerbera Daisy, but I hope the image lasts forever.

"Hedgehog Cactus Study"

This image was taken in a studio environment. I like to work in a dark studio with skylights and side windows. I use the incident light from these sources to illuminate my subjects. Because of the subtle lighting, the resultant shutter speed is usually 5 to 10 seconds.

"Bearded Iris"

This image was taken in a friend's garden during one of our hot summers. This variety of Iris has huge buds. They almost always bend from their own weight to the ground. They have a deep black color to the buds, but once they start opening you realize that they are deep purple. To achieve this image I placed the lens inside the flower to utilize sunlight as my main illumination and to amplify the purple color of the petals.
