"Plumbago 1"

These flowers were brought to me by my friend Helen from her parent's garden. I was instantly drawn to these by their subtle blue color. This image ended up being a peaceful scene. One of my favorites.

"Christmas Cactus"

Since we have been looking at cactus, let's include the Christmas Cactus. These beautiful blossoms appear in December and point down toward the ground. I have seen a bright pink variety, too. For this image I snapped off a section and stood it upright. Interesting thing is that I saved the green section below the flower and placed it in some dirt. It took three years, but now we have a nice big Christmas Cactus hanging plant. I bet we get at least 50 blossoms a season from it.

"Prickly Pear Variety"

Here is a Prickly Pear variety that I had not come across before. I used to go down to the Sixth Street Artists Market, in Austin, on weekends to sell my images. We used to set up in a grassy area across the street from Opal Devine's and this variety of cactus grows around the perimeter of the Artist's Market. One weekend in May we all noticed this one particular bloom and had a small contest to see who would take the best shot of this flower. This is the image that I captured.

"Hedgehog Cactus Profile"

I guess I should add to the collection the profile of the Hedgehog Cactus. This is what the earlier image, "Hedgehog Cactus Study", looks like from outside of the flower. I was interested in capturing this image when I first saw the flower and then I was completely hooked when I looked inside. The color tones were unbelievable. My wife was totally responsible for getting me to even look at this flower and nagged me until I did. I guess she was right...again!
